Paris – Final Reflections

Study Abroad Program is an opportunity to gain experience on some new culture, architecture, and food of the host country. This was my second time to visit Paris. I enjoy this trip a lot because I can travel with my peers.

I enjoyed the beautiful history of each landmark. It made me wanted to travel back through time to the French Revolution. My favorite places are Versailles, Eiffel tower, Louvres museum and the Arch. I also enjoy the flavorful French cuisine. My favorite dishes are duck, snail, and mussels. French people love to gather for an afternoon drink. I also liked people there because they are kind, patient, respectful and helpful to me.

I enjoyed experiencing the many sites we visited through the lenses of their religious histories and the ethical/socioeconomic situations/environments they represent, rather than just as tourist sites.  It was good to see a range of sites in different parts of Paris and from different points of view (boat, air, ground) and different time periods in history.  Visiting landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, as well as art and history museums, a library, churches, cemetery, gardens, zoo and the places that honor the sacrifices of historic figures (Pantheon and Arche de Triomphe) provided a wide ranges of cultural experiences that provided a lot of insight into French culture and traditions.  Probably my favorite place was the Pantheon because I had not been there for a very long time and I learned a lot about the different types of people that had been buried there.  Because my ties to France go back to the 1980s, it was interesting to me to see the recent additions to the Pantheon and why they were given a place in the Pantheon.  The art and architecture inside the building was also amazing and beautiful.

This was my first time going abroad and I am so grateful to have done it through this program. I was able to have a fully-facilitated program that did the scheduling for me – I was able to just show up and become fully immersed in the culture. The facilitators were engaging and asked us thought-provoking questions to help us apply where we were to what we knew about our culture at home. It was such an amazing experience and would highly recommend studying abroad through Georgian Court!
