Our bags are almost packed and we are all ready to go!! South Africa is only a 16 hour flight away…. SIXTEEN HOUR FLIGHT yikes! It will be well worth the cramped legs and boredom once there.
Some of the highlights of our trip will be visiting elementary schools in the Durban area. Most of us on the trip are studying to be educators or will work in a school setting. This opportunity will impact us in so many ways. I know I can’t wait to bring back my experience to the children I am teaching in the spring semester.
On other time we will visit Durban’s World Cup Soccer Stadium area, a visit to Pheonix Settlement with a chance to meet Ela Gandhi (granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi), a visit to Phansi and KwaMuhle museums, and the beach to step into the Indian Ocean as it will be summer!
Taking in the Zulu culture with a visit to PheZulu village to have a traditional meal and dancing will be an exciting experience. I am sure I can speak for us all when I say we can’t wait to share more in depth posts on all these adventures!
Good bye cold weather and hello sunny summer!!!
