Day 2 – Visit to the Equator

Sophia Raimondi – “During this blog, it was interesting to learn all about the equator. I also thought it was interesting to hear about how it is different from each side. Before joining this Zoom meeting, I didn’t have much knowledge about the equator, but now I feel like I have learned so much about the weather near the equator line and even where the equator is located. This might sound silly, but everything I learned about the Equator was when I was young, so I didn’t remember any of it. I found this section of the Zoom extremely interesting. “

“I also thought it was interesting to learn about Guanabana, the huge fruit that was held up. It was so big, and had very rough skin on the outside, and was a bright green color. I have never even. Heard of this fruit before joining the Zoom meeting. It is so interesting to me that although we all live under the same earth, life is so different all over the world. I also found the face paint that was made interesting because they made at homemade and because it was used for protection from the jungle. They would use the paint and paint symbols on their faces. Overall, this Zoom meeting was extremely interesting!”

Jaden Garret – “We did an overview of Ecuador, learning about the different regions and history. What I found most interesting was learning that the Kichwa are descended from the Inca. Additionally, we learned a few Kichwa words and were introduced to cacao fruit and other Ecuadorian foods. Afterwards, we learned about the importance of Ecuador’s name. It is named after the equator due to the sun’s constant path each day. Additionally, the city of Quito’s name means the center of the Earth. It was amazing to see the equator line and understand how gravity plays a part. The water experiment was interesting to see gravity’s effect, showing how the water goes down the drain in different ways in both hemispheres well as the equator. We were also shown shrunken heads, and it was fascinating to learn about the process of how they were created.”

John Indjeian – “I was more amazed, however, by the fact that Ecuador is home to the Latitude 0 point and has its own tourist attraction! The tour guide showing us how gravity works differently was cool, and the fact that it’s the center of the Earth makes it one of the places that I’d like to visit someday!  There is more that I’d like to learn, and I’ll be sure to tune in for the rest of the tour sessions.”

Megan Damico – “The Equator line was like we were there. The fact that the tour guide gave us time to take a selfie if we were there in person. The water in the bucket stood out.  All the different sites were amazing. The fact that the tour guide showed us everything was amazing. “
