On our last day we braved the rain to tour around Old San Juan to understand and appreciate the history of the island. The tour included El Morro fort, the walled perimeter that protected the city, the cathedral, a stop for some piraguas (shaved flavor ice), the streets with their iconic balconies, shopping for souvenirs, and a visit to the site where pina colada originated. We ended our experience in Puerto Rico mashing plantains in a pilon to make mofongo.
